Standing together for fairness, stability, and real job security at Google
Workers across Google Ireland, from engineering to sales to operations, full-time and contract alike, are facing growing uncertainty. Sudden layoffs, reduced redundancy, and pressure from systems like GRAD have left many feeling insecure in our roles.
What We’re Calling For
Irish Googler workers deserve clarity and stability. We’re demanding:
1. Redundancy as Paid Leave
Irish visa holders and workers supporting families need time, not just a payout. Google should offer redundancy (severance) as extended paid leave, giving workers the ability to plan their next steps with dignity.
2. Voluntary Buyouts Before Layoffs
Before any cuts, workers must have the option to take voluntary exit packages. Buyouts should match at least the minimum redundancy (severance) offered in 2023.
3. Guaranteed Minimum Redundancy (Severance)
No surprises, no arbitrary decisions. All workers, including those on fixed-term or temporary contracts, deserve a clear and fair redundancy (severance) process.
4. End Forced GRAD Quotas
Performance ratings should be honest and fair, not manipulated to justify cuts. GRAD must reflect genuine contribution, not targets set behind closed doors.
Why This Matters for Ireland
Ireland is home to one of Google’s most important global hubs. Our work keeps products running, supports millions of users, and drives global revenue.
Google cannot succeed without its Irish workforce.
And when thousands of workers here feel uncertain about their future, that’s a problem the company must address.
